Forests are the lungs of our entire planet and protecting them is more critical than ever. Among all life on this planet, they are the ultimate mitigators of climate change. Even though experts say the world’s forest area is decreasing but at a slower rate of loss, about 420 million hectares have already been taken away from our planet since 1990 (FAO). Top countries experiencing great losses in forests over the past 10 years include Brazil, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Indonesia, Angola, Tanzania, Paraguay, Myanmar, Cambodia, Bolivia, and Mozambique. At the current rates of deforestation, some 28,000 species face extinction, livelihoods of over 1.6 billion people are at stake, and catastrophic levels of GHGs threaten the atmosphere. There is no doubt that sustainability is at risk and there needs to be more global effort to stop deforestation. Earth Day must be every day! We can no longer continue to ignore the impact deforestation will have on our food production, food security, biodiversity conservation, and climate change. #Plantatree #InvestInOurPlanet #GreenTalkSolutions
